NEW YORK -- The Dance Insider Online, the leading Internet dance journal featuring reviews, commentary, news and art by professional dancers at www.danceinsider.com, is elated to announce that New York Theatre Ballet has accepted its offer to serve as Media Sponsor for the company's 2007-2008 30th anniversary season.
"Under the artistic direction of founder Diana Byer, New York Theatre Ballet has for 30 years demonstrated that ballet is a living legacy," said Dance Insider publisher Paul Ben-Itzak. "Its ambitions have been grand and comprehensive, including scrupulously staged revivals of some of the major works of the 20th century, notably by Antony Tudor; an education program for at-risk children; and new and classic work presented in intimate settings, giving audiences the chance to experience close-up the power of ballet.
"The New York Times's Jennifer Dunning rightly called the company a 'discreet little pearl in the oyster of New York dance.' Through increased international and national exposure via free advertising on the Dance Insider, we hope to help New York Theatre Ballet be a little less discreet."
"I'm thrilled and honored that the Dance Insider is the new media sponsor for NYTB," said Byer. "NYTB is a chamber ballet company in one of the most famous cities in the world. We're surrounded by the best and biggest companies in the world. The Dance insider has given NYTB a special vote of confidence enabling NYTB to have a world-wide visibility that it's never had before. What a wonderful start to our 30th anniversary season!
"It's so important for every dancer to stay current on everything that goes on in the dance world and the Dance Insider is the place to explore and research dancers, companies and events around the world."
NYTB tours its family and adult programs both nationally and abroad, and it operates the nationally-recognized, pioneering LIFT Community Service Program, serving homeless and other at-risk children. The company is known for its theatrical expressiveness, high production quality, excellent technique, and accessibility, as seen locally in New York at Florence Gould Hall and in the intimate Dance on a Shoestring series at the company's 30 East 31st Street headquarters. NYTB's roots are in the principles of the Cecchetti-Diaghilev tradition of the Ballets Russes. The world-renowned teacher and ballet mistress Margaret Craske, brought to the United States by Tudor, passed this tradition on to NYTB. The company's vaunted Tudor revivals are staged by Sallie Wilson, on whom Tudor created many of his dances. Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, Auguste Bournonville, William Dollar, and Michel Fokine also form an integral part of NYTB's repertoire.
Upcoming performances by New York Theatre Ballet include "The Nutcracker," opening December 14 at Florence Gould Hall, and the latest Legends and Visionaries program, featuring work by Tudor and Jose Limon and being performed February 8-9 in the same venue.
