Moving is Not Moving.
(Editor's Note: Nohgaku-za
performed "The Fulling Block" Sunday evening at the Met, in connection
with an extraordinary, breathtaking, comprehensive survey of Japanese
art. "Masterpieces of Japanese Art from the Mary Griggs Burke Collection"
opened last Tuesday and is on view through June 25. While the performance
will not be repeated, Nohgaku-za will be performing something different
at the Japan Society tonight, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
When Kurt Weill and Bertolt
Brecht decided to create an epic opera in 1930, they found inspiration
in the 15th-century Noh play "Taniko." That opera, "Der Jasager,"
will be presented by the Japan Society, in English, together with
Nohgagu-za's production of the Japanese original.
