Position Description and Details: The Hunter College Dance Program seeks a highly qualified teacher/artist/scholar to join a vibrant and growing program in the heart of New York City. The Program currently enrolls close to 150 majors and minors and serves over 300 students per semester in a liberal arts environment that draws on the many resources of the city's cultural community and confers a BA in Dance. An MFA degree plan is in the pipeline, and should admit its first cohort in Fall 2009. Responsibilities: Teach dance courses (typical load is 3-4 per semester) at undergraduate and graduate level in: Dance History from a global perspective, Philosophy and Aesthetics, Contemporary Issues such as gender studies, political/social concerns, one world dance technique discipline at intermediate level, one other Movement Discipline (modern, jazz, theater dance, etc.) at intermediate level, Improvisation/Composition/choreography, and in 1-2 of the following areas: New Media and Collaborative Techniques; Production; Laban Movement Analysis; Pedagogy. Oversee/advise student choreography and production. Serve on program and department committees, contribute to university community. Remain active in research and/or creative work and performance. Qualification Requirements: MFA or Doctorate degree in Dance; 3-4 years university teaching experience; evidence of significant professional accomplishments in chosen area of expertise; active engagement in the dance community as choreographer, director or performer; interest in teaching in a liberal arts environment with an extremely diverse student body.
